The private Krisp alternative
Krisp is the noise cancellation app, and the paid plans now include meeting notes. Bot-free capture is the default, English transcription can run on the device, and Core still stores the recording in Krisp. If you wanted cleaner audio, this is the right product. If you wanted notes that never upload, it is a cloud note taker with a strong filter in front.

Every cloud note taker
- Hosted in a chosen region, so you trust where the servers are
- Encrypted in transit and at rest, so you trust the keys are handled well
- Deleted on request, so you trust the deletion actually happens
- “We don’t train on your data”, so you trust the pledge outlives the roadmap
Privacy by architecture
Private Notetaker
- ✓Audio is captured, transcribed, and summarized on your hardware
- ✓There is no server holding your meetings to breach or subpoena
- ✓Nothing to delete, because nothing was ever collected
- ✓No pledge required. The data simply is not there
Don't take our word for it. Turn WiFi off and watch it keep working.
I built this for myself. I live in back-to-back client calls, and I was never comfortable piping confidential conversations about clients' revenue, ad accounts, and contracts through someone else's cloud just to get a summary. So I made a note taker where everything stays on my machine. I have used it every working day since. Now I am opening it up.

Krisp questions, answered
Is Krisp an AI note taker? +
It is both. Krisp's pricing page includes a bot-free AI note taker on Core, with transcription, recordings, and action items, and the noise cancellation Krisp is known for. You can turn the note taker off. Private Notetaker only does the notes, on your computer, and does not clean the other person's audio.
Does Krisp join meetings with a bot? +
Not by default. Krisp's meeting assistant page says capture happens at the audio level on your device, so no extra participant appears. You can send a bot when you cannot attend, and that bot does appear. Private Notetaker never joins the call.
What is the difference between Private Notetaker and Krisp? +
Krisp is a voice app: noise cancellation on every plan, plus meeting notes stored in Krisp. English transcription can run on the device. Other languages are transcribed on Krisp's servers, and Core includes 10 GB of cloud storage. Private Notetaker is a local notes app for Mac and Windows. Recording, transcription, and summaries stay on the machine, and it works offline. There is no noise filter. $15/mo or a $149 lifetime license, with a 7-day free trial and no card required.
Does Krisp work offline? +
Noise cancellation runs on the device. We did not find an offline mode for meeting notes. Private Notetaker transcribes and summarizes with no internet connection, because both models run on your computer.
Where does Krisp store recordings compared with Private Notetaker? +
Core includes 10 GB of storage in Krisp, Advanced 60 GB, Enterprise unlimited. Krisp's FAQ says English transcription can run on device, which is not the same as keeping the archive locally. Private Notetaker stores recordings, transcripts, and notes as files on your disk. Nothing is uploaded.
Is Krisp HIPAA compliant? +
Krisp's pricing FAQ says the company is certified for SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, and HIPAA. The plan table lists HIPAA, and a BAA for teams of 100 or more seats, on Enterprise, next to on-device transcription and recordings. Private Notetaker does not claim HIPAA certification. On-device notes are an architecture fact, not a compliance badge. Check the requirements for your profession.
