The private Pandecho alternative
Pandecho is a real local peer: transcript, summary, decisions, and action items on a Mac or Windows PC, with no bot, and a lifetime licence. The on-device model works offline. The difference is narrower than a cloud comparison. Pandecho's FAQ says on-device transcription uses Parakeet V3 for English and major European languages, and summaries can optionally go through your own ChatGPT account. Another section of the same page says local Whisper. Private Notetaker is English only, has no cloud summary switch, and is $15/mo or $149 once, with a 7-day trial and no card.

| How privacy is enforced | Architecture: audio never leaves your device | On-device transcription and summaries by default; ChatGPT is an optional exit |

I built this for myself. I live in back-to-back client calls, and I was never comfortable piping confidential conversations about clients' revenue, ad accounts, and contracts through someone else's cloud just to get a summary. So I made a note taker where everything stays on my machine. I have used it every working day since. Now I am opening it up.

Pandecho questions, answered
Is Pandecho private? +
The default path is. Pandecho's site says transcription runs on the computer and audio is not uploaded. Summaries use an on-device model, or optionally your own ChatGPT account. The local model works offline. ChatGPT needs the network and sends text to that account. There is no meeting bot. Private Notetaker has no cloud summary switch: transcription and the notes model both run on the device.
Does Pandecho join meetings with a bot? +
No. It captures audio on the computer, so nothing named Pandecho joins Zoom, Meet, Teams, or Webex. Private Notetaker also never appears in the participant list. You still need consent to record.
What is the difference between Private Notetaker and Pandecho? +
Both aim at on-device transcripts, summaries, and action items, with no bot, on Mac and Windows, and both offer a monthly plan and a lifetime licence. Pandecho's FAQ says Parakeet V3 covers English and major European languages, the one-device lifetime price is $79, and ChatGPT summaries are optional. Private Notetaker is English only, has no cloud summary mode, and costs $15/mo or a $149 lifetime license, with a 7-day trial and no card required. Choose Pandecho for the languages they claim, the $79 single-device licence, or volume pricing. Choose Private Notetaker if the only mode should be on-device notes.
Does Pandecho work offline? +
Yes, with the on-device model. Pandecho's FAQ says only the optional ChatGPT summary mode needs a connection. Private Notetaker transcribes and summarizes offline because there is no summary setting that points at a cloud account. Airplane mode, with ChatGPT left off on Pandecho, is the test for both.
How much does Pandecho cost compared with Private Notetaker? +
As published on pandecho.com on 23 September 2026: $10 a month for one device, or $79 for one device, $149 for three, or $399 for ten. Lifetime licences include future updates, per their FAQ. Private Notetaker is $15/mo or a $149 lifetime license. Pandecho's single-device lifetime price is lower. Private Notetaker's $149 licence is one price, not a per-device ladder, and the monthly plan is $15. Confirm both pricing pages before you buy.
Does Pandecho work on Windows? +
Yes. The site says macOS 14 and later on Apple Silicon, and Windows 10 and 11. Private Notetaker also runs on Mac (Apple Silicon) and Windows (64-bit). Mac Note Taker and MacWhisper do not: they are Mac only.
