The 7 best Jamie AI alternatives in 2026
Jamie records on your computer without a bot, transcribes in the EU, deletes the audio, and keeps the transcript. Jamie is already bot-free. The limit is the EU transcription step and the saved transcript. A local alternative is for when that upload is the part you do not want. The other cloud note takers below are a different trade, mostly with a bot.
Disclosure: we make Private Notetaker. Jamie's bot-free capture, EU processing, and audio deletion are from meetjamie.ai and Jamie's security docs, checked 30 September 2026. The pricing page and the docs listed different euro prices that day. Otter, Granola, Fireflies, Fathom, Talat, and MacWhisper were checked on 16 September 2026.
| Alternative | Where meetings are processed | Bot in your calls | Price |
| Private Notetaker | 100% on your device, works offline | Never | $15/mo or $149 once |
| Otter | Processes and stores your meetings on Otter's servers | OtterPilot bot joins your calls | $16.99/mo (or $8.33/mo billed annually) |
| Granola | Captures audio on your Mac, processes it with cloud AI | No bot, but your audio still leaves the machine | Free Basic; Business $14/user/mo; Enterprise $35/user/mo (checked 2026-09-16) |
| Fireflies | Processes and stores your meetings on Fireflies' servers | Fred the notetaker bot joins your calls | $18/mo (or $10/mo billed annually) |
| Fathom | Processes and stores your meetings on Fathom's servers | Fathom bot joins your calls | Free for individuals, teams from $19/user/mo |
| Talat | Real-time transcription entirely on your Mac | No bot | $9/mo or $189 once |
| MacWhisper | Local Whisper transcription of files and meetings | No bot | Free version; Pro is a one-time purchase (EUR 64) |
Jamie pricing page and docs as checked 30 September 2026 (the euro amounts did not match). Otter, Granola, Fireflies, Fathom, Talat, and MacWhisper as published 16 September 2026. Free plan; docs list 10 meetings a month, 30 minutes each.
1. Private Notetaker: the private, on-device pick
The full workflow runs locally on your Mac or Windows PC: recording, transcription, and AI notes with decisions and
action items. Nothing is uploaded, it works in airplane mode, and no bot ever appears in your
meetings. $15/mo or $149 once for a lifetime license, with a 7-day free trial, no card
required. If you want the models on the machine, including offline, this is the closer fit. If you want EU residency, deleted audio, and 99+ languages, Jamie is the better tool. We are English only, and we do not hold a transcript to delete.
2. Otter
Otter pioneered AI meeting notes, and everything you say goes through their cloud. If your meetings involve clients, patients, or deals, that is a lot of trust to hand over for a transcript.
Price: $16.99/mo (or $8.33/mo billed annually) · Free tier: Free tier capped at 300 min/mo · Compare with Private Notetaker
3. Granola
Granola got the bot-free part right. But your meeting audio is still processed by cloud AI models, so the privacy story ends at your network cable. We keep the whole pipeline on your device.
Price: Free Basic; Business $14/user/mo; Enterprise $35/user/mo (checked 2026-09-16) · Free tier: Free plan with limited note history · Compare with Private Notetaker
4. Fireflies
Fireflies is built for teams that want everything synced to the cloud and piped into a CRM. If what you actually want is notes that stay yours, sending every call to another company's servers is the opposite of that.
Price: $18/mo (or $10/mo billed annually) · Free tier: Free tier capped at 800 min storage · Compare with Private Notetaker
5. Fathom
Fathom's free plan is genuinely good, and it is free because your meetings live on their infrastructure. For everyday standups that is fine. For confidential conversations, free is the wrong price.
Price: Free for individuals, teams from $19/user/mo · Free tier: Generous free tier for individuals · Compare with Private Notetaker
6. Talat
Ten hours of free recording with no account before you pay, then a subscription or a lifetime licence. Built around live on-device transcription of meetings, dictation, and recordings, with recordings, transcripts and notes kept in a local database. Summaries are written by the app's built-in AI by default.
Platforms: Mac (macOS 15+, Apple Silicon) and Windows 10+ · Price: $9/mo or $189 once · Site: talat.app
7. MacWhisper
A well-established Mac transcription tool. Records Zoom, Teams, Webex and other calls in the background without a bot, and transcribes locally. AI summaries are optional and need setting up: either a local model through Ollama or LM Studio, or a cloud provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others) with your own API key. Pick the local route if privacy is the point.

Common questions
What is the most private alternative to Jamie? +
Private Notetaker, if private means the audio and the transcript stay on the computer. Jamie already deletes the audio and keeps the text in the EU, with no bot. That is a strong cloud design. It is still cloud. Granola is the US bot-free comparison, and it keeps transcripts in Granola's cloud.
Is there a Jamie alternative that does not upload the audio? +
Private Notetaker. Speech-to-text runs on your Mac or Windows PC. Jamie streams audio for transcription in the EU and then deletes it. MacWhisper transcribes files locally on a Mac if you do not need the notes written for you.
Is there a Jamie alternative that works offline? +
Private Notetaker transcribes and summarizes offline. Jamie needs a connection for the EU transcription step. The free Jamie plan in the docs is 10 meetings a month, 30 minutes each, which is a cap, not an offline mode.
Why do Jamie's prices disagree? +
On 30 September 2026 the pricing page listed Plus at €21, Pro at €39, and Team at €33 per seat. The docs listed Plus at €25, Pro at €47, and Team at €39, with credit caps. We are not going to average them. Pay the pricing page, and ask Jamie which cap applies.
Is there a Jamie alternative without a subscription? +
Jamie's free plan exists, with the caps in the docs. Paid plans are monthly. Private Notetaker offers a $149 lifetime license as well as $15/mo. A lifetime license does not include Jamie's language coverage or EU paperwork.
Is Private Notetaker a HIPAA-certified Jamie alternative? +
No. Private Notetaker does not claim HIPAA certification. We also did not find Jamie claiming HIPAA. GDPR and ISO 27001 are Jamie's published claims. On-device processing is not a certification. Check the requirements for your profession.
